Creation To Reveal Its Unique Formula Design Engineering Capability

Creation UK, one of the country’s top, innovation-led, design engineering, analysis and technology businesses, makes its Autosport International Engineering Show debut at this year’s two day trade only event at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, starting Thursday, 13th January 2011.

The British-based independent company, has been gearing up to help manufacturers and Tier level suppliers cope with rising demand and resourcing issues as markets begin to recover.  Creation founder and Managing Director, Bill Davis says, ”Some firms, which scrapped future plans and product development – and delayed upgrades and model replacements at the start of the downturn, are experiencing difficulties in ‘re-ramping’ up activities as the economic climate starts to improve.  Indeed, in many cases, internal design and development engineering functions no longer exist, leaving no option other than to outsource to fulfil requirements”.

Established in 1995 – and best known for its work in the automotive, specialist vehicle and defence sectors, Creation has invested continuously in advanced design and analysis technology and has the systems capacity to support up to 50 active design stations at any one time.  Its extensive computer resources – both hardware and software include the latest state-of-the-art and acknowledged best practice systems, including Dassault Catia V5 and MSC Suite (ADAMS, Nastran, Hyperworks, etc.).  This capability also enables Creation to operate regular Digital Mock-Up (DMU) programme reviews, either on-site or remotely, to maintain progress, timelines and client engagement – and identify potential design or production issues.

Last year, the company moved into a new headquarters and technical centre in Hampshire, co-locating its design office functions and engineering facilities together under one roof for the first time.  It also has a satellite office in India and is supporting design and technology transfer projects in the Middle East.

The company has developed – and proven a unique and highly successful formula design engineering methodology, which enables it to compress timelines between concept, design, prototype and production readiness.  This includes Creation’s own defined system for capturing and mapping client and user requirements into the design and subsequent virtual prototyping process.  This ensures that initial build fully meets performance criteria and most closely resembles the finished product or system.

The process includes the integration and analysis of all product and componentry interfaces, engineering functionality, performance and predictive behaviour modelling – whilst also reducing overall programme costs. Creation is able to scale and apply this approach across a very wide range of design and engineering programmes and specialist requirements, including total vehicle architecture; componentry, sub-systems and powertrains; protected defence and security platforms and transporters; industrial plant and machinery; hydraulics and materials handling equipment; marine and leisure products.  It can also provide downstream requirements such as prototype build, low volume or trial manufacturing, limited-run assembly and work associated with supporting electronic and control systems, informatics and technical publications.

Creation’s reputation has grown out of its established core business of vehicle and industrial design – and related development and engineering services, componentry and sub-systems.  Its portfolio of work however, adequately demonstrates the diversity of the company’s capabilities.  Examples include the design and development of a compact, next generation automaton materials handler, hydraulic systems, an air conveyor and spray system for applying a uniform coat of chocolate to confectionery products, a mass spectrometry Quadra-pole design for use in the agrochemical industry, a radical blast seat design for military vehicles which mitigates the risk of serious skeletal and internal injuries – and a futuristic, versatile trailer capsule for the leisure, sports, marine and disabled markets.

Creation also provides consultancy services, acts as a design authority and has both alone and with others registered designs and IPR assets in a number of sectors.  It has achieved strong growth year-on-year across its core design and engineering activities – and it has further opportunities to develop through a mix of strategic alliances, partnerships and licensed manufacturing arrangements.

Creation’s core team has been built over time and includes a well balanced group of highly experienced, motivated people, most with long records of service with the company.  However, it is concurrently investing in the future generation of the business and the team also includes a number of young and outstanding graduates.

Creation is a strong, passionate, hands-on, highly qualified and experienced team which delivers world-class engineering design, development and engineering services and products - supporting both national and international customer programmes and its own in-house projects.

Creation UK’s Project Allora began as a concept design and production feasibility study for an undisclosed international client.  The mid-engined two-seater features a composite body over a steel underframe and uses a proprietary V8 power unit to deliver supercar performance.
